Shifting your thinking about consuming, ecology, economics and choices
Life is abundant, but we are stuck in a scarcity frame. When we think and act from this frame of scarcity, we use the wrong strategies to deal with global challenges such as our ecological and economic crises. We will explore how to approach these challenges from an abundance frame, and what an economics of abundance would look like. In our private lives, we are also confronted with an abundance of choices and possibilities. I outline two strategies to help us enjoy this abundance instead of being overwhelmed by it. What would it be like to experience our lives as giving rather than taking? What does it take to feel truly rich?
Key concepts and practices to turn your life into a work of art
Why are you alive? How should you live? How can you turn your life into a work of art? How can you live an authentic life – that is, live the life that you were meant to live? You will learn to examine your life and the choices you make from the standpoint of freedom, meaning, and community – and how to design projects that give meaning to your life.
Change your behaviour by changing your thinking
Reframing is a technique to change the way you look at the world, and to change the way you act in the world. A five-step technique to turn the things that irritate you, that frustrate you, or that cause you pain, into new situations where you are in control, and which you can enjoy. I use real-life examples from my workshops of people who have use Reframing to change the way they look at themselves, to get a new perspective on their environment, or to become less fearful. They have used these new perspectives to make lasting changes in their lives.
Make radical changes in your work and business models
Use the five-step Reframing method to start thinking differently about products, projects, stakeholders, business models and customers. Challenge cherished assumptions and reframe these to design radically innovative approaches that you can put into practice right away.
Understand and use fundamental societal shifts
Why is the world the way that is is now? How did it get to be this way, and how will it change in the future? What fundamental changes are upon us, and how will this affect me? A paradigm is a way of looking at the world and a way of acting in the world. Recognizing and understanding paradigm shifts allows us to understand the fundamental changes that we are going through.
Rethink your life and work during a pandemic
The corona pandemic has completely changed life as we knew it. Most of us have had to make radical changes – in our habits, our work, our social life, and in our thinking. Time to develop a “radical change mindset”, and learn to embrace change instead of being stuck in frustration and resistance.
Learn about five levels of radical change – acceptance, shifting, reframing, mobilisation and redesign – and turn your thinking into experimentation. Whether you want to rethink working from home, need to overhaul your business model, or need to reframe this global crisis into an opportunity for changing the world, this course will help you to crystalise your ideas and take charge of your life. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Time to step up.
Formats for group feedback sessions in the arts, education and business
Ideally, feedback offers wonderful opportunities for improvement in the creative process. Giving and receiving feedback well is not easy, however. All too often, those giving feedback fall into judgment or giving advice, and those receiving feedback become overwhelmed and defensive: we find it hard not to take it personally.
These feedback formats – adapted from existing feedback and thinking techniques – will help you to break through usual feedback patterns and to separate thinking from emotion. Feel free to use the videos, powerpoints and handouts in your own sessions. These formats are specifically for group peer feedback sessions on work-in-progress – if your situation is different, you will need to adapt them. Good luck!
